Empowering survivors to speak out and learn that we can make a difference together
One in four women will experience domestic violence during their life time. This fact is true in faith communities as well as in the wider community. Too often women experiencing domestic violence are not heard when they speak up about the abuse to members of their churches. These women also may encounter criticism and judgment from church members. As a result, abused women seeking support from their faith communities shut down and become more isolated. Churches must strive to be a source of comfort and support for those who experience domestic violence.
A Cry for Help is a workshop to educate members, and especially leaders, of faith communities about domestic violence and how to better support those who suffer from this violence. This conference will be led by survivors of domestic violence. It is time that the survivors have a voice. We believe that survivors can best discern and communicate their needs and struggles within their faith communities.
